No, I’m actually really kinda heated that they changed Shun’s gender, like a lot.

For those of you that think this was done to “include females” characters then you are a fucking idiot. This was done cuz Saint Seiya was introduced as a kid’s show, and I am 100% sure they did this bullshit so they wouldn’t have to explain why someone like Shun is around since he is the complete opposite of what “a guy” should be.
Like fuck off. I 100% understand why this was done in Voltron, because it didn’t matter what gender Pidge was. Pidge wasn’t a character that truly mattered if it was male or female as his gender didn’t bring a specific characteristic to his character.
But in Shun’s side that’s the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. The whole point is that he’s a guy and he’s seen as a coward, a wimp, a bitch, and “girly” just cuz he doesn’t want to fight. He doesn’t like fighting, and yet he can fight and protect himself perfectly well. He wants to protect the people he cares for and wants to be of use even if he can’t fight. The other knights make fun of how girly he is and how he has the armor of a woman and he still doesn’t let that shit bother him because he knows who he is.
On top of that, he’s the character that mostly shows you that it’s okay to need help and depend on others. As he does with his brother A LOT. His brother protected him and also if you take all of this into consideration and twist Shun’s gender into a female, then he just becomes the stereotypical female character that needs to constantly be rescued and helped by men. Which NO ONE WANTS TO SEE.
In other words, they twisted shun’s character to brush under the rug having to explain why a boy that acts “gay” is in a kids show, and also to pamper the audience with a female character that it’s going to be a terrible pick.
They could have picked ANY OTHER KNIGHT to change the gender of. Fuck make his brother, his sister instead. Ikki would have been amazing as a badass bitch or Shiryu, but no, they went for the ONE CHARACTER that was the stupidest decision to pick.
